National BikeSafe Motorcycle Show 2009

Postby david916 » Tue Apr 28, 2009 2:25 pm

:D Just to let everyone know about a forthcoming event coming up soon:

One of the UK’s largest motorcycle safety shows is to be hosted by the Metropolitan Police and sponsored by Transport for London for the second consecutive year. The show is the highlight of the BikeSafe-London calendar and is part of the national BikeSafe initiative, which is a commitment by police forces across the country to promote rider skills and road safety awareness, and reduce biker collisions and casualties.

Following the success of last year’s event, the National BikeSafe Motorcycle Show 2009 will return to the world renowned Metropolitan Police Training School (Peel Centre), Aerodrome Road, Hendon, NW9 5JE, on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June 2009. Opening times are 10am to 5pm and entry and parking are FREE.

Police Officers from BikeSafe-London, working in partnership with motorcycle officers from across the UK, will be on hand at the event to provide safety advice and offer free rider skills assessments. These can be carried out on the rider’s own bike or with a bike on loan from an exhibiting manufacturer.

There will be lots to see and do for all the family, not just motorcyclists and the show will be much bigger (and hopefully drier and sunnier) than last year!

Aside from the many motorcycle manufacturers and dealers in attendance there will be numerous different trade stands selling all manner of motorcycle clothing and accessories. There will be stands selling helmets and bike gear, exhausts, tyres, earplugs, bike trailers, etc. There will be bike security, breakdown recovery and insurance companies on hand for advice. FBOS (First Bike On Scene) and SERV (Service by Emergency Volunteer Riders) will be there, as will many owners groups such as BMW, Harley Davidson, Honda, and Vespa. Track day companies, bike tour companies and bike friendly hotels will be at the event taking bookings. If you bring your own bike along then why not put it on the Dyno that we will have there so you can get an idea of its true performance and get a printout to show your mates! You can also test your reactions on the bike simulator we have. If you’re new to two wheels then North London Motorcycle Training will be on hand offering advice and scooter try-outs.

Reasonably priced food and drink will be available throughout the day from catering outlets.

There will be emergency services related stuff too such as police skid pan car demos, police dog displays, Special Escort Group, London Fire Brigade collision extraction demonstrations with the London Ambulance Service, police and air ambulance helicopters, etc, etc.

There will be plenty of entertainment on both days with stunning displays by the famous British Army Royal Signals White Helmets Motorcycle Display Team. We have MG Stunt Riding (Mattie Griffin is Ireland’s No. 1 stunt riding champion, ranked 5th in the Streetbike Freestyle World Championship 2009), the original wooden Wall Of Death (the one you see on the BBC between programmes) and also East Coast FMX (performing breath taking stunts jumping over 30 feet above the ground and gaps of over 60 feet leaving their bikes mid flight).

There will be loads of bikes available to look at, sit on and ride, from all the manufacturers that matter. No pre-booking is required to take a bike for a ride, just turn up on the day with your driving licence (card and counterpart). You may need to get there early to avoid disappointment if there is a specific bike you want to try. Please note that some restrictions may apply.

This event is about celebrating the fun and excitement of motorcycling while also supporting riders to ensure they can continue to enjoy biking by improving their road safety awareness and skills with the help of free expert advice.
